Sleeping, Swimmers Ear And Evaluations

So three nights into this and I am sleeping just fine. I usually wake up several times each night but the past three nights I have been waking up only once, and it’s just a groggy look at the clock then back to sleep. A nice change.
I have no idea if the binaural beats stuff is real, or if I just think it’s working and it is a placebo but I don’t care. All I care about right now is that I can sleep.

Travis is on the Lincoln High School swim team. They swim like they have anchors attached to their feet, but they are swimming and appear to have a lot of fun doing it. The downside? Travis picked up swimmers ear.
Looking into his ears is a terrible sight. It looks like he has cauliflower growing inside of his ears and all I can do is cringe when I think about it. It’s painful and he has had a pretty rough couple of days dealing with it. Travis picked up some ear drops from the doctor and that seems to be getting rid of it but man… just kind of gross.

Alex had an evaluation early this week to determine if he has any kind of learning issues, and to find out if he is developing like a normal kid. He scored well on everything except talking. This kid just wont talk. Travis was the same way but it’s an issue now because Alex is getting frustrated that he cannot communicate with us, and we get frustrated that we don’t know what he wants.
We are now working hard on getting him to speak when he wants something and it’s off to a decent start. I was playing with him the other night where I would pick him up, spin him a bit and then toss him on the couch. He loves it and we could do this for hours. I started telling him that if he wanted up, he needed to say “up!” and I would pick him up. It took all of 30 seconds and he was screaming “up!” at me. I guess the proper motivation goes a long way.
One of the words he says clearly and frequently is “no”. No is the answer to everything, unless we ask him if he wants candy.
Want to eat? No. Want a bath? No. Want to play? No. Want some candy? Head nods furiously.
Amazing.

We are all in the Xmas rush mode right now and it drives me nuts. I have always been a little crazy with this time of the year because there is so much motion and activty going on and I prefer that things are quiet and structured. Xmas breaks those rules.
I’m trying hard this year to enjoy it more now that Alex is old enough to have fun tearing into gifts and stuff but I’ll be happy when all of this is over and the new year starts.
