Binaural Beats

Posted on December 9, 2008 - Filed Under Binaural Beats, Life, Sleep

I have had a difficult time sleeping for the past few months.   It’s bad, to the point where I am lucky if I get 2-4 hours of sleep per night.

I lay down, am tired but my body refues to relax.  It is a living nightmare some nights and it has been taking it’s toll on me mentally and psyically.

I have tried sleep aids but almost all of them have made me groggy the next day and I am not fond of taking a pill every night just to get to sleep.

While browsing the iPhone app store I saw a few applications related to Binaural Beats, audio aftifacts that are said to cause different stimulus for the brain.  Certain sounds can make you relax, help you sleep, make you learn faster and more.  It sounded like a load of crap to me until I researched it more and decided I was willing to try just about anything at this point to get some sleep.

I purchased an application called Mindwave from the app store last night and headed upstairs for my nightly routine of reading in bed.   30 minutes into listening to the sounds and I could not keep my eyes open or even focus on my book.  I was beat.

Slept through the night, not waking up once and felt pretty good this morning.  I know it’s only one night, and we had a busy night last night anyway (I turned 40) so I am not sure if this is working or not.

I plan to continue the next few weeks with this, just to see if I can go a long stretch with a full 7-8 hours of sleep, something I have not done in months.  If I end up sleeping solid for a few weeks I’ll call it a success, placebo or not.
