2006 Honda CR-V MPG Update
Posted on June 24, 2008 - Filed Under Commute, Honda MPG, Work
According to MyMileMarker I am now averaging 25.3 miles per gallon on the CR-V. This is up from my previous 24.7 MPG which is a nice change.
I’ve changed my driving habits and it appears that it’s paid off. The bulk of my miles are my work commute from Tacoma to Bellevue which is 60+ miles round trip. I have been using the cruise control when possible to keep my speed at a steady pace. I’ve read somewhere that using the cruise control makes a difference because you are not constantly pumping the pedal and using more gas. Guess what I read was correct.
The second change in habits has been coasting more. I’ve tried to gage the distance it takes me to stop and have eased off the gas a bit to try and coast to a stop when I can.
Those two simple changes have made a pretty significant jump in my MPG and I’m happy with it. Now I am going to change a few things mechanically like tire pressure and maybe some of the other fuel saving tips I’ve read to see if I can boost my MPG even more.

I’ve been using a few of the suggestions contained on the website CleanMPG.com. Last week was my first week of changing driving habits and I calculated my MPG at 20.4 with gas costing 3.96. My major change was driving 60 in 55 mph zones and adhering to the speed limit at all other times. I have also started coasting, using the cruise control more and a lot less braking. The traffic in my area is one of the worst in the nation and I sit in a lot of stop-and-go traffic, so the 20.4 might not be so bad. I could do better, though, so I am going back to CleanMPG.com to check out other ways to conserve. The site seems a bit technical to me, but maybe you can decipher some of it and let me know what it means.
