A Visit To The E.R.

Posted on June 20, 2008 - Filed Under Baby Life, General, Year One

We spent most of this afternoon at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital with Alex.

Alex started running a fever this morning, hitting 102.7 at it’s peak.  He was very lethargic which is unusual for him.  I left work early and met Toni in the E.R. and Alex looked terrible.

Our initial thought was that he was suffering from a bladder infection.  We started potty training and he has been pretty agressive when he lets us know that he has urinated.  He will hit the front of his diaper pretty hard and he seems to get upset.  Between that, the high fever and his frequent urination we thought for sure he was sufering from a bladder infection.

The only way to test for that with a toddler is brutal.  They had to insert a catheter to get a sample for testing.  I cringe just thinking about it.

Turns out that he was not suffering from a bladder infection.  Doctor says that he picked up something viral and told us to keep an eye on his fever for the next 24 hours.  Motrin has knocked the fever out and ALex was feeling much better tonight.

I have a couple of camera photos on my Flickr page of Alex in his hospital duds.

I am on call for the next two weeks.  24/7 which means I will probably limit my updates during that time if things get busy.
