Screaming, Head Butts And Tantrums

Alex is still a screamer.
He is 18 months old and we are trying to teach him how to not scream when he wants something or gets upset. Probably a losing battle for us but we have to try.
I am assuming this is an example of what we will be dealing with when he hits the “terrible two” stage. Currently when he gets upset this is the cycle we go through. Screaming and then a solid head butt on something a few times to drive his point home. He will head butt the floor, couch or any other object within range. Typically this leads to a nice bruise on the center of his forehead.
We asked his doctor about it and she tells us that he’s being pretty normal, and that we should just slide something soft under his head when this happens and let him work it out. Not sure if I am cool with that.
I’ve noticed a few tantrums the past few weeks. Nothing major but it’s interesting to see the progression in behavior. Usually a complete meltdown means he is either tired (which is the cause 90% of the time) or he is just plain bored because he has no other children to play with. I can sympathize with him and we are working on the social side of his development.
