All Quiet

Not much happening right now. I spent the weekend catching up on much needed sleep as I prepare for my first week of an upcoming on call rotation starting Friday.
Travis went camping with his father while Toni and I spent most of the holiday weekend at home with Alex.
We went on a few walks around the neighborhood with Alex. I like to call them expeditions because each one is full of exploration for him. Alex likes to collect rocks and stuff them in his pockets. He’s migrated from plain old rocks to shiny quartz style or red brick rocks. Funny to see him actually have a preference.
We are teaching Alex not to ‘whine’ so much when he wants something. He has a tendency to get a high pitched whine when asking for things and it’s not a habit we want to continue. If we tell him that he is doing it, he changes his tone and lowers it to a normal level. Much needed as we start working with ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ type of speaking.
We also spent some time fencing off areas of our back yard while we prepare to kill all of the grass and level the yard with fresh top soil. This is a huge task and one that is going to be a pain.

I have been talking to Toni about moving out of South Tacoma and into a better neighborhood. This year there have been a couple of shootings around us and I’m really upset about it. I don’t want to raise the kids in this environment but we are not in a position to move right now.
It feels like the City of Tacoma continually ignores the issues in the south end and I am tired of it.
Eventually we would like to get into the north end of Tacoma, or out of the city and into an area that is a little quiet and better for raising the kids.
