Rainiers, Rhubarb And Guilt

We spent the past weekend at the Rainiers games on Friday and Sunday. Friday night we took Travis and a friend to the game and watched as the Rainiers were destroyed by the Oklahoma Redhawks. At least the fireworks show after the game was something fun to watch, because the game was a dud.

Sunday afternoon was “Pink day at the ballpark” (a breast cancer event) so the players were dressed in pink jerseys. Looked kind of funny to see them in bright pink but it must have done something because they actually won the game 10-4.

Our seats are right near the door that the “fun squad” and Rainiers mascot Rhubarb use to enter the field. That means we see a lot of Rhubarb. Rhubarb decided to plunk down in the seat next to me and that’s when things got interesting. I was trying to ignore him at first, and that is probably why he decided to clown around a bit with me. It started with him trying to eat the peanuts I was snacking on and then a sad attempt at trying to wear my jacket. Being a large mascot, the jacket wasn’t going to fit so he turned it into a little comedy routine. After that it was high-fives wit Rhubarb for a bit before he finally left. Entertaining and I assume something that we will be dealing with the rest of the season due to the location of our seats. One last thing, Rhubarb is kind of smelly.

We asked Tonis mom to watch Alex for us while we were at the game and I thought things would be ok. He’s been to her house many times and they have a huge area for him to play. I figured he would be in little kid heaven for the day. I called bama on the way to pick up Alex to let her know we were on the way and she told me that Alex had a major meltdown. I guess he finally realized we had left him there and that’s when the meltdown started. He was running around, screaming for mom and dad. Felt pretty guilty about it because I’m sure it was a weird thing for him to experience. One minute we are there and then out of nowhere he realizes we are gone. Probably freaked him out a bit. I guess it’s part of his learning process, to understand that there are times when we wont always been in his field of view, but still felt kind of bad for him.
