Mythos Beta, School Sucks and Screaming Baby

Posted on March 27, 2008 - Filed Under Games, Geek, General, Year One

I’ve been lucky enough to be involved with several beta tests for upcoming games this year and by far my favorite has to be the game Mythos.

Developers from Diablo and Fate are behind the game and this is as close to a spiritual successor to Diablo as I have seen.  This will be a hit for Flagship studios, no doubt in my mind about it.

Travis is being a knuckle-head in school right now and it’s making me crazy.   I’m sure he feels the same way.

I assume this is payback for the crap I pulled when I was a teenager and it sucks.  He is a smart and talented kid but boy does he hate doing or turning in his work.   This is the part of parenting that is difficult, the part that there isn’t a manual or self-help book available and honestly there is no easy fix.

You get mad, try to fix it, tell them you love them but you are upset and try to work through the issue.   I wish he would try harder to help himself, but that is a difficult thing to learn and do when you are a teen.

Alexander is a screamer.   Not just any normal screaming, we are talking high pitched screams that shatter windows and make the dog run away.

He screams when he is mad, excited or generally for no reason at all.  It’s amazing.   We even bought him a book called “Loud and Quiet” and try to show him what loud and quiet means.   He doesn’t care, and just screams.

Screaming at home is one thing…. screaming in PUBLIC is a whole new experience.   We tried to go out to dinner last weekend and he was in a fine mood, happy go lucky and not upset about a single thing.  Once we stepped into the restaurant and were seated all hell broke loose.

I’m pretty sure Alex sprouted horns at this point because he turned into a furious ball of anger.  Crying, screaming and general anger all the way around, right out of thin air.   I don’t know what set him off but it was bad enough that Toni scooped him up and walked out.  She ended up taking him home, leaving me and Travis at the table wondering what the hell just happened.

Funny thing about screaming - it must be inherited. As a little one, David’s screaming could break glass. Nuf said.

For those of us who couldn’t stand sitting still for an hour or quite grasp that talking all the time wasn’t normal, and for those of us who were beaten into submission and verbally humiliated as children for this kind of behaviour, I vote for loving our children through this terrible time yet remaining strong in our convictions and focusing on positive solutions - no matter how loud the teenager may protest.

Welcome to the terrible twos early..It will get worse before it gets better..Just try to wear ear plugs until than..My daughter bite & screamed..
As far as the teenager year my mom explained it the best…Aliens invade the body from the time they turn 13 to about 22…. My mom had a great solution which was put all teenagers into a deep freeze let them have the knowledge they need when the defrost…
Teenagers try so hard to proof their parents wrong that it back fires and we end up being right and they hate it…Just remember to breathe through it… sooner or later it will get better…
My daughter has been going through it for two years now I am still waiting for the Alien to leave….
