Leg Wound, Spitting and Biting

I’m not talking about one of our dogs, this is about Alexander.
Alex finally got his 12-month immunizations and things were fine… until this week. Alex has developed a red mark on his right thigh so we had to go in for a doctor visit. The doctor thinks it could be one of two things. The first would just be a reaction to the immunization in that area, the second (and scary one) is MRSA. Now we have to watch the area to see if it develops a “head” like a pimple. When the doctor first mentioned the “head” I had visions of an actual head with hair and teeth coming out. Too many horror movies as a kid I guess. Anyway if the head shows up, it’s another rush to the doctor. Joy.
Alex has learned to spit, and we are breaking that habit quickly. While sitting on my lap and leaning over my arm Alex found that he could spit and make drops on the floor. That turned into a game for him before I realized what he was doing. Now I’m the bad guy for breaking up the fun.
Alex bit me on the arm last night, hard enough to leave a mark. He doesn’t know it’s “bad” to do this so we are teaching him that biting is a bad thing. It’s incredible how hard and painful the bite from a six-toothed baby can feel. Seriously it’s like being bitten by a puppy and hurts like hell.
I’m learning that babies are actually pretty gross, but you love them anyway. They shove fingers up their noses, spit, drool, fart, poop and pee all over the place, and are generally a mess. It’s amazing we make it past year one.
