Baby Life - Week 51

Posted on October 24, 2007 - Filed Under Baby Life, General

Alex is a year old.

This year has gone so fast, I almost feel like I’ve missed things.  I have been lucky enough to work form home and watch him grow this first year and it’s an experience that I will never forget.   I never thought I would be able to handle a baby, let alone have one of my own but this experience has changed me.

This was the perfect time in my life to go through an experience like this.  I have a somewhat stable job and a nice roof over my head, a wonderful wife and two great step-sons.  Both of our families have been supportive and they are enjoying the moment as well.

We celebrated all three birthdays this past weekend and the boys had a good time.  Alex had no idea what was happening, Travis and Sean were happy to get money, and it was nice to see everyone together.

Alex learned that he has a belly button, and will point it out to you if asked.  He also knows that mommy and daddy have one too.  He is waving hello and bye-bye on his own, knows what feet and toes are, laughs at the dogs, cries when he is tired and is taking some lumps learning to walk.

Our next doctors appointment for Alex means a new series of immunizations and we are very paranoid.  I’ve read some studies that link these to issues like autism and other issues and it’s freaking me out a little bit.  I guess we have to go over all of the data more.

Sean is working with his dad so we don’t see him much.  I enjoy Sundays with him because he comes over to watch the Seahawks games with me.  I think we kind of click now that he is older and things seem better than they ever have been between us.

Travis is in school and we are fighting the same battles.  School is tough for him, which makes it tough on us.  We are tired of getting upset with him when things go bad during his school day and just want him to be happy.   Lots of notes coming home the past few weeks and it is hard.

Travis has been digging into his XMods RC cars, changing configurations and tuning them.  They are pretty cool and faster than any RC car I had as a kid.  Impressive to see how far things have come.

If any of you are still reading all of this after a year of keeping tabs on Alexanders development… thank you.  I know I don’t update as much as I used to, but I still get a weekly update in and try to keep everyone informed.  I’ll have pictures of the birthday bash on the site soon.

    I was a bit concerned about the vaccines, too. But went ahead since she’d have to get them sooner or later if she’s going to go to school.

    Here’s an interesting article:

    Jock Doubleday, director of the California non-profit corporation Natural Woman, Natural Man, Inc., has offered $75,000 to the first medical doctor or pharmaceutical company CEO who publicly drinks a mixture of standard vaccine additives.

    The additives would be the same as those contained in the vaccines recommended for a 6-year-old according to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, and the dose would be body-weight calibrated. It would include, but not be limited to:

    * Thimerosal (a mercury derivative)
    * Ethylene glycol (antifreeze)
    * Phenol (a disinfectant dye)
    * Aluminum
    * Benzethonium chloride (a disinfectant)
    * Formaldehyde (a preservative and disinfectant)

    On August 1, 2007, if no one has taken the challenge, the offer will be increased to $90,000 and will increase at a rate of $5,000 per month until someone accepts.
