Nintendo DS Lite And Old School Handhelds

My wife and kids know how to make a geek father happy on fathers day. Fathers day came early last night when I was presented with a brand new black Nintendo DS Lite. Very cool, and I was up late last night playing Puzzle Quest.
I’m looking at DS mods and will probably be running some home brew apps on it once I settle on which hardware I want to buy. I love stuff like this and wish it had been around when I was a kid.
I remember owning the handheld football game made by Bambino and the popular football game by Mattel in the early 80’s which were really just blips on the screen and nothing like what we have today. We were so addicted to these things that I remember getting in trouble for playing the game under the covers at night when I was supposed to be sleeping. There was no mute button on the damn things, so your best bet was to keep one finger over the speaker hole while trying to play.
This is the Bambino Football that I had. I remember it had some of the worst noise for stealth playing but won lots of points on shape and style. If you were playing one of these in public people were curious and wanted to see what you had. I’ve seen these on auction sites now and the prices are pretty high, costing more than the original just to get your hands on a working one.
