JVC AV-56WP74 Woes

Posted on May 31, 2007 - Filed Under General

Our JVC AV-56WP74 died yesterday.

It didn’t really die, the color blue seemed to “sag” or was a ghost while everything else looked fine on the screen.  It was possible to watch  stuff but really looked like crap and wasn’t worth the trouble.

Turns out this was caused by the convergence IC’s failing.  In our case it was the part number STK392-110.  The part was replace and things look great.

The cost? $325 and an hour of labor.

Same thing just happened to mine. Bought mine in 2003. IS it worth having repaired? Have you had any issue since?

Well worth replacing. I had had zero issues with the TV since, and it is working fine.

In our case, it was either drop $1500 on a new TV or spend the $300 bucks to fix.

I’d read that this is a somewhat common problem after the 3 or 4 year mark and that the fix was a good option.

Happy we took the repair route.
