Baby Life - Week 2
Posted on November 6, 2006 - Filed Under Baby Life, Life
Things are going great!
Alexander was jaundice last week and it was caused by breast feeding. The doctor had us change to formula for 12 hours to give his system a break. It cleared the jaundice but gave him some seriously smelly poo, the kind that makes you gag. Once he was back on the breast milk things settled down and all is well.
Alexanders eyes have cleared up and he is able to track movement now. He is moving his head, looking around and really moving quite a bit. We have to be careful when we hold him now because he likes to whip his head around. I think we can rule out brown eyes for him, they look hazel to me.
We have been putting him on his stomach twice a day for 5 minutes at a time. This helps build his neck strength and coordination. He is able to move his head side to side a few times before he gets tired and is making great progress.
We are concerned about his hearing and want to have this tested again. He just doesn’t respond like a “normal” infant when there is a loud noise. The doctor told us that he is probably used to the noise in the house because he was around it while in the womb. I’d still feel better if we had another hearing test just to make sure things are okay.
The dogs are getting used to the fact that there is a new edition to the “pack” and are starting to settle down. Niko is very protective of his new pack member and growls when someone new goes near Alexander. Comet is starting to calm down a little but he is still very nervous around Alexander so we have to keep a close eye on him.
We had lots of visitors last week and it was nice to see everyone. We appreciate all of the help the last two weeks with meals, purchases and general helping out. I never realized how much effort went into care of an infant until now, and I have a greater appreciation for what people go through when they have a new child.
Gallery is updated again with new photos of Travis and grandma Rose holding Alexander.

Do you have a music box you can play next to Alexander. I think too early to say he has hearing problem. He still in his own world exploring little by little. Babies like soft music…i would not worry…but keep us all posted. Sure all the rain he hears makes him want to sleep like me. you know sleep the winter away! He just too cute to be compared to any orangatang …Gosh no comparison.
I got a response out of him today while he was waking up from a nap. I clapped my hands and it startled him so… I guess the doctor was right.
Thanks for stopping by the house the other day, we were happy that you and Bill got to see him!
Really glad to hear he is responding!
He just getting used to all your house noises….Take care, enjoy!
